I never met Kenny Goldsmith during my time at Penn but I always respected his work from a distance. Unlike Charles Bernstein — who taught my experimental poetry class and has churned out some pretty awesome poems — Kenny G is essentially unreadable and takes the mundane to extreme levels (like The Weather, which is a year of transcribed weather reports).

The other day I came across a Kenny G poem when I googled a snippet of John Sterling: “Let’s take a ten second station I.D. on the New York Yankees Radio Network.” His Sports was the only result, and I found myself actually reading with some interest the better part of the poem, which was just a transcript of a Yankees-Red Sox game (maybe this was interesting to me because I’m a Yankees fan).

Anyway, this led me to the audio file (text is here), where Kenny talks poetics a bit, and the really interesting distinction between “boring boring” and “unboring boring.”
